Information for International applicants

  1. two Advanced Level passes at Grade C or better in Biology and Chemistry and
  2. an Intermediate Level pass at Grade C or better in Physics,

provided that all passes in these Special Course Requirements have been obtained together in one session of examinations (i.e. one sitting) and are from one recognized examining board.

Applicants in possession of the degree of Bachelor of Science (Honours) with at least Second Class (Honours) in Dental Hygiene or Dental Technology may also apply.

For the purpose of the above paragraphs, a pass obtained in a session of examinations which is held after the results of a previous session were published shall be deemed to be a pass obtained in a session that is distinct from the previous one. This regulation shall also apply to the second session of the Matriculation Examination offered by the MATSEC Board of the University of Malta according to the provisions of the Matriculation Examination Regulations and this notwithstanding any other regulation governing the award of the Matriculation Certificate.

Prior to enrolling for the Course, accepted applicants are also required to undergo an occupational health assessment as detailed in the Occupational Health Protocol approved by the Board, so as to ascertain that they are fit for the duties related to their proposed studies. Students who do not fulfil this requirement shall be barred from attending the clinical placements.

The aim of the programme is to educate you into the profession of a Dental Surgeon with a broad academic dental education, where you will be able to function in all areas of clinical dentistry practising evidence-based comprehensive dentistry based on a problem solving approach, using basic theoretical and practical skills. Furthermore, this course of study will prepare you to be sufficiently trained in dental science, and are able to work with other dental and health care professionals in the health care system (both public and private). As a Dental Surgeon, you will be prepared for life-long learning and continuing professional development that is essential in the modern professional world.

Communication and Academic Skills Programme

The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the Master of Dental Surgery Degree Course Regulations, 2014 under the auspices of the Faculty of Dental Surgery.

Upon successfully finding the course, you will have a broad knowledge and understanding of the following:

  • application of basic clinical sciences
  • information handling, communication and treatment procedures/planning
  • clinical reasoning, judgement, and effective communication.
  • clinical information gathering and health promotion
  • attitudes, ethics and legal responsibilities
  • the role of the dentist within the Health Service and the Community and personal development.

As a graduate, this degree will enable you to practice dentistry both in private practice and in institutional settings.
